An FCA landing slot is the 3 month period allocated to firm’s holding interim permission under the consumer credit regime during which they must apply for authorisation. Firms were issued with the date of their landing slot in mid-2014 with the earliest landing slots starting in late-2014 and the latest landing slots starting in 2016. If a firm makes an application during its landing slot the interim permission is extended until the FCA reaches a decision on the application. If a firm fails to make an application during the allocated slot it must ceased trading.
In some limited circumstances it is possible for a firm to amend their FCA landing slot but the FCA’s expectation is that firms will have prepared well in advance of their landing slot in order to submit their application.
In preparation for their FCA landing slot firm’s should be ensuring the compliance of their business model, verifying the suitability of their controllers, adopting appropriate systems and controls, and completing their application documentation.
